Hey folks! My name is Justin and I have an addiction. This is my first go at this team thing but I’m glad to be a part of it. I’m an Army guy stationed at Fort Jackson, SC for my last couple years before I retire. I’ve been letting these birds control my life for the better part of 25 years. I’m a public land guy mostly with the exception of family farms in Kentucky. If all pans out the way I hope, I’ll be hitting North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Kentucky. Best of luck to you all this season. I hope everyone has a safe and successful year. I look forward to sharing my experiences and hopefully learning a ton from y’all along the way.

Hi guys, my name is Ryan. This is my first attempt at the turkey competition thing. I'm a house painter for a real job and make calls for a hobby.  Can't wait for season to begin. I'll b hunting Indiana and Michigan. I hunt almost exclusively on public land. Love the challenge of public land hunting. Good luck to all of us.

Hey Gents my name is Todd and I too have an addiction like Justin and rest of the team!

I moved to FL in 2007 from IL and have really only been chasing turkeys the past 4-5 years. There wasn’t a good enough population to hunt them in N Central IL and would bump into them occasionally in State or City parks. I hunt and fish as much as I can and hope to make a GA turkey hunt with a co-worker or TX hunt to see family.

I’ve worked for a two different utilities since 1990 and spent 28 years with the Navy both active and reserve.

Season kicked off with my daughter two weekends ago and birds were crazy quiet. This past weekend they were finally making noise but think I could have thrown a rock and hit four other hunters. I’m all public hunting and in FL it takes ~ 4 years to get a good draw.  Next weekend will be N FL season opener for youth and already have a few public spots holding birds.

Hope to add an Osceola or two in mix this season and safe hunting to ya!

I’ve been making calls as well for the past couple years but with the recent move been down with shop time recently. I enjoy turning mostly pot calls so far. My shop is being finished in the next couple weeks and hopefully I can get back up and running soon. I take any advice I can get being relatively new to turning calls. I’ve managed to kill several with my own calls but have a passion for collecting/using others as well. It’s definitely a craft an a form of art for sure.  Maybe I could send you one and get feedback or gain a few tips. Old Gobbler has opened many doors for us as a community to expand on this obsession. Looking forward to our season.

Cool to see other call makers on the team!  I make them as well.  I've only been making them for a couple years, but I love it.  Well, sometimes, other times it makes me want to pull my hair out searching for the "perfect sound".

It looks like we have a lot of first-timers to the contest, me included, but at some point I think we have to pick a team name and a team captain.   Anyone have any thoughts?
I know I need to buy a digital scale since I believe it's required that we weight any bird we kill as part of the score.

I leave for Texas next Friday, heading down there with a few customers to do some hog and turkey hunting.  I'm beyond excited, next Saturday is opening day in Texas, so I'm hoping to get us on the scoreboard.  We have 2 days of hog and turkey hunting, then the 3rd day we get to shoot hogs out of a helicopter.   I went last year too just to hog hunt and it was a blast.   The best part is that my company pays for it!!

Hi Everyone, I live in Southeastern Illinois in farming country. I am retired having worked at The University of Georgia and Mississippi State University for 38 years. Currently I help my brother farm and hunt deer and turkey when I am not farming. I will be hunting locally and maybe Georgia and Kansas this year. Looking forward to learning from all of you on this team and if I can be of assistance to any of you, please contact me. This will be the first year that I will be using a 20 gauge shotgun. Season starts March 23 in Georgia and April 8 in Southern Illinois. Eager to get out. Been mapping turkey with trail cameras to see how many gobblers are in the area. Thanks for letting me be on this team.  :turkey2:

Travis would be a great Team Captain!

Seems like we have a well rounded team!

Names Tom, wife calls me other names especially this time of the year, but I’ll stick with that for the time being. Live in MS and have chased turkeys with some degree of excitement for the last 10 years. Will be hunting only MS, mostly public birds!

Sadly I’ve never turned a call and am a long ways from retirement (congrats to those that made it!). But my wife’s cool with me leaving, my daughter understands, and the boss hasn’t fired me yet so I’m blessed to spend a few good mornings in the hardwoods. Season starts in roughly 2 weeks and I’m ready to put some leather to the ground. Got some winter weight that needs to be worked off so it’ll be a twofold outcome, at least I hope!

Good luck fellas!

Tom

I sent Shannon a message yesterday asking if we were going to have any more team members before we finalized a name and captain.
He just allocated 2 more people so I think that gives us 10.  I sent 2 new guys a message telling them to come on over and check in.
I've never done one of these contests but I'll be glad to be captain if no one else wants it.  If anyone else does want to, by all means please feel free.

If I may make a suggestion since I think we're all first-timers to this contest.   If you haven't already, click on some of the other teams and look through the stuff at the top of each team's page.  There's some very helpful information there.
The main things to remember are - take a picture of you and your bird, take a picture of your bird on a digital scale with the weight clearly shown, take a picture of the beard measurement, take a picture of each of the spur measurements.   Take a picture of the scoring form with all of the fields filled in to the decimal, and have your screen name and date of harvest written on the form.  Then post all of these pictures in our scoring thread - which we should receive once we pick a captain and team name.
Important to remember - take GOOD pictures - fill out the form properly - post ALL the pictures
I just had to order a digital scale - amazon has one with a tape measure for about $10 bucks if anyone is looking

Hey guys I’m Jordan from middle tn. My first time doing the team thing as well. I’ve Hunted turkeys for 11 years and it’s definitely an addiction. I basically only hunt my grandpas farm and two other buddies farms in middle tn all year. Got some good hunting so don’t travel really to hunt. Like to travel to hunt and maybe get a slam but got the younguns and they are a handful, hard to leave them. Hope we all can have a good season and be nice to meet some new people on OG. Maybe if anyone is close enough we could get together for a hunt. Good luck this season guys.

Team C,

Good luck to ya'll in the contest. Sounds like you have a bunch of turkey killers and that's great. But that is only half the battle!  Read the rules and take GOOD pics.

It's all about getting the required pics!!  Just a little helpful hint. Good luck from someone on another team!
