Nikon - lousy products, worse customer service

So a few things I have seen in the last 25+ years selling optics, customer calls and dealing with vendors/mfg. and service depts. Used to be you would talk to the maker, in most cases now "warranty" issues are call centers that cover several sellers... notice I said sellers. There are a number of companies that do not make the product they sell, and in cases one manufacture is just stamping a "name" on what they build for said company.

Thing about "lifetime" warranties is those that you are going to need and those that you may never need. And this is brought into the production costs of your optics. So if I can get optics made cheap enough that I can mark up enough to cover the cost of Lifetime Warranty replacement(s) or if a company produces a high quality product that in all likelihood will never have a warranty issue which way would you spend your money?

I can tell you I buy quality over everything else, I would rather spend my money on those optics than others. I have a few of my favorites that have worked flawlessly for as long as I have owned them! When I am in the market for my next optic purchase I will again spend my money on quality.

Love my binos!

I've had nothing but good dealings with them. Sent back an old pair of broken Nikon trailblazer 8x42 binos. Said they couldn't fix them. They were gonna replace them with PS3's. Told the lady I wasn't impressed with them cause they didn't look as clear as my old TB's. Offered to kick in some extra cash for an upgrade to PS5's. Told me they couldn't do that. Now, if did take a while to get my replacements but it was also during peak season. What they actually sent me was a set of PS7's. Been very happy so far.

Nikon finally sent me a new pair of Monarch 5's, but only after making me jump through hoops, checking repair time, checking their repair center stock of replacement binocs, waiting for my binocs to arrive at their repair center, and several levels of "hmm, what should we do about this".
When they finally agreed to replace them, I was already up at camp. They had to mail them to the office of the guy I lease from. I'm happy that they replaced them, but they still won't admit that they have a design flaw. I'm going to go ahead and get a pair of Vortex binocs, and relegate the Nikons to back use only since I can't trust them to not fail on a trip.

Can't go wrong with Vortex. I bought a pair of the older Talon HD's on eBay for a song. Guy had just sent them back to Vortex for a cleaning. Used them in Colorado and they were great. Been using them for deer hunting this year too. Don't use my nikons nearly as much now but they do get to ride in the truck a lot. I've found I prefer the 10x Vortex over the 8x Nikons for glassing the fields. Woods hunting I'll take the Nikon's though.
