Anyone recommend a new vest
February 18, 2018, 10:32:30 AM
I'm looking into a new turkey vest I've narrowed it down to 4 any help on these or recommendations. Alpz super elite 4.0, Alpz nwtf impact, cabelas tactical tat'r 2 and the primos gobbler vest. I'm looking for one that's not hot and a good cushion for long sets.

I'm on the hunt for a new one as well. I hunted a primos rocker last year and loved it. But it didn't hold up. I got a nomad so far and ordered the impact tonight. I'll keep the one I like the best. The nomad is very comfortable and well built but not a lot of storage.

I got the Rocker last year, too heavy for my taste.
I have a Tat'r II that I like a lot, usually without the backrest but with a Cabela's lounger chair.
And I always like the RedHead Bucklick Creek vests and have one on the way now.
Love to hunt the King of Spring!

man i searched and searched and tried them on, and looked at how they are made. i ended up with a new tatr 2 last year from cabelas, the seat is amazing man. i would like to see a vest come with a long box holder and a short box holder.
my vote is tatr 2 from cabelas but its all what you want, i like something thats comfortable and has all the pockets i need.

I have the Cabelas tactical tat'r 2 as well and love it. I looked at the Nomad vest today in Nashville hoping to like the vest and while I did like the outside layout it isn't better than my tat'r to me.
The tat'r has a seat that can't be beat. There are no buckles to keep it, it's elastic straps that hold it up and allow it to flip down quickly and snuggly and return to the upright position with just the flick of the seat. Cabelas calls it the speed seat and it is that. It has a lot of pockets and they are a good mix of deep and shallow pockets for any and everything you could want to carry as well as a water bottle holder on the left side.
Do yourself a favor and check it out. I don't have the one with the frame but imagine it is great as well

Decided that I wanted a new vest this spring and these are the ones that I have ordered so far this year.
Nomad: Returned due to pocket snaps, shallow pockets all over and very tight fit. (I'm chunky)
Alps Grand Slam. Fairly nice, but once again, very shallow pockets and the leg extension was defective. Returned
Primos Rocker: Returned due to defective pot call holder that was ripped upon arrival. Actually liked the vest but seems to be some QC issues.
Those have all been returned.
I looked at a Primos GEN2 vest in person and ended up ordering one to try. If the quality is there, then it might be the one I use this spring. I liked the layout and the weight of the vest. Supposed to be here in a couple of days.
I also am intrigued with the new vest from Tenzing, the TV18. I found it on Amazon not in stock but ordered it anyway. Amazon's return policy is top notch, so if I don't like it, it can be easily returned. I have a Tenzing pack that I have used for several years and the quality is top notch on the pack and I will see how it is on the vest if I ever get my hands on one.

I recently got one of the new Knight & Hale RNG 300s...while I haven't been able to hunt with it yet, I have simulated it, and believe I will like it quite a bit. Worth checking out.

I've had a tatr 2 and now have an alps. Both are great vest. The cabelas imo has the best seat system on the market, the layout is good but the pot call holders were a touch small not so bad you couldn't use them, but it was a tight fit for most of my calls. The cabelas has way deeper pockets which is a plus for me. My biggest complaint with the cabelas is that it doesn't have shell loops. I am going to give the alps a try, I can already say the magnets are not strong enough to hold the seat up when going though brush and such. I like that it has shell loops, but no real deep pockets. And one other plus is it has two water bottle pockets. One of which will hold my thermal cell, a feature the cabelas didn't have. All in all they are both great vest. Can go wrong either way.

I've ordered a bunch over the years & returned most of them. The Cabela's Tactical Tat'r 2 is one of the few I've kept. Very hard to beat as far as quality & comfort. Last year I got the Primos Rocker. l liked the ability to sit anywhere with it but it tore up after a few weeks & I had to have it replaced. I've got the new one now but I'm thinking I will just sell it because I'm afraid it won't hold up. It's also very heavy & hot. I bought the Midway Full Strut vest last year that I used the rest of the season after the Primos Rocker tore up. It's well made & light. The cushion seat is thin but it's not near as hot at the end of the season. I'm still searching for the perfect vest but I don't think it exists.

I think it's going to be either the tat'r or the Alps elite 4.0

Another vote for the Cabelas vests.

I just bought an Alps grand slam. I like it but it is a little on the heavy side. I've been debating on buying the Alps impact and seeing if I like it better. The cushion on the impact? looks bad thin to me in the pictures.
