How do you collect/choose calls?

I know some of you have an enormous collection of pot calls. I started collecting just a few years ago. Since I have started, I've gotten a couple that sound similar and were made from different woods. Hopefully this doesn't happen to often.

How do you guys collect and pick calls? Do you follow a certain call maker, do you collect award winning calls? Do you jump on the bandwagon or just buy calls based on the looks or craftsmanship?

Just a tip, I have probably 40 pots and I have gave away about 15 more and traded away about 10 or more and I have thought some have sounded exactly the same as pots that I already had but I traded one and the guy ask for a sound file so I went out in the back yard and played it for him and made the trade before I listen to the sound file, after I listened to that file I so wanted that call back, even ask the guy to trade it back to me, I have two other calls that I didn't think sounded that good until I made a video of me running them and I still was not sure but sent them to some buddies and they all said they sounded great. My tip is to video yourself running some calls you think sound alike or that don't sound good, it might change your mind!

I've pretty well got to the point I've started collecting pretty much any and all variants from certain makers. I likely won't add but maybe another name or two to that list. I chose those people because I think their calls are top notch, and enjoy talking to these people as well. I will buy second hand to expand my collection, but getting calls directly from these particular makers are what I like most.

I only am trying to get 1 call from some of the bigger call makers and give most of my business to the smaller builders. I like different calls and the smaller guys cater to me and If I go into a turkey camp out of state chances are the turkeys haven't heard too many calls like mine but I bet they have heard some Halloran,And Trice calls. I know they make great calls and everyone sounds different but that is how I think

I factor in age of caller a lot too,,everybody retires,,so I want to get the Mabrys,Albert Paul's,Sneeds, etc before they decide to stop making calls and I just have to read about them in a book or pay collectors prices.

I buy from callmakers that have reputations of building a great call most generally.(Sound,looks,and Resale value)First and foremost I'm going after sound though . I also look at resale value even though I never seem to trade or sell any...If someone I trust says try this less known callmakers call it sounds great I'm not afraid to go out on a limb and try it..
I've killed a whole bunch of Turkey's with calls from guys that don't get very much recognition. Most every callmaker was not well known when they started.
