SNAKE BITE KIT???!!!???

Yup, snake boots are definitely a must-have, especially for outdoor walks and hunts. A few years ago, I was playing catch with my lab and his dog toys, all of a sudden, I felt something strike against my leg, sure enough, it was a snake. Good thing I had my boots on, or it would have ended badly. I hacked it with my machete for safety measure.

I have been bit by a stump tail water moccasin years ago turkey hunting and can tell you it totally sucks. Boots wouldn't have helped as I was bitten in the thigh. You talk about jumpy , you really get jumpy after that for a long time. I still wear snake boots

I carry The Extractor snake bite kit. A couple of years ago I saw a story about a guy that got bit my a great big rattler and he used his snake bite kit. The doctor told him that the amount of venom he took that if he didnt use the kit he would probably not have made it to the hospital in time.

Someone mentioned to call an ambulance. This is something to think about. Depending on where you are by the time an ambulance gets to you , you could be at the hospital.

I don't have stats but I'd say ticks and mosquitos are more dangerous than snakes with all the disease they spread.

Pretty sure you're right.   BUT............ I'd MUCH rather get the tick bite and do the 3 weeks of doxycycline than be snakebit for 1 minute.   Kinda like more people are injured each year in the bathtub than are by gunshots.   I'll take the slip and fall in the tub every time.

Only snakebite kit I carry is my Irish Setter snake boots and my Gerber Gator.   Only used the kit twice.  But an Irish Setter ON the head paired with the Gerber applied slightly BEHIND the head has, thus far, gone 2 for 2.

On a farm I hunt in mid Georgia every year, I almost always have at least one run in with a venomous snake. Usually cane breaks, then cottonmouths and a copperhead every once in a while. Around home in North Georgia, copperheads are the predominant venomous snake with the occasional ratter but no cottonmouths.

If I am ever bitten, it will probably be on the hand reaching for a call or pushing myself up off the ground, snakes seem to move quietly and just appear.

A cell phone is much more important than a snake bite kit.
