Green slate

It seems green slate is becoming pretty popular what are some of your favorite woods for the pot and what sound boards do you like the best with it? Anyone run one with slate over slate or aluminum as sound board or is glass the norm? Thanks for any info

Just about all the green slates I've seen are over glass sounboard. The green slate is harder and has a more glassy sound in the first place. I think I've seen a green slate over normal slate, and if not I'm sure it has potential. I'd imagine it's good in just about any wood that slate or glass is good in as well.

In my opinion, it's such a nice balance between slate and glass, that the chatter coming out the other end is PURE turkey.

Just my two cents worth here, but if ni was making a green slate pot call, I'd have a blasted glass soundboard, and put it in a walnut or Wenger pot.

How does green slate hold up with moisture compared to it's brother? Another question I have been pondering: If green slate is sounds so comparable to glass, but is easier to play, why would you use glass again?

Good questions I actually think slate is easier to play than glass.Glass isn't hard to play by any means but I think slate is easier and easier to condition.Does crystal sound the same as glass when used as a sound board? I never hear of it as a sound board is why I ask

I've asked many a makers to run me a crystal soundboard, and I've always been given the same answer, "They don't cut crystal in soundboard dimensions." I don't think many call makers cut their own glass, and that's the reason you don't see it, the suppliers just don't provide it.

I have a Yingling slate over copper that I really like as well and plan on using it this fall for some gobbler yelps. Mine is just the regular gray slate.

I have 3" crystal, so they definitely make it. Lol.  It isn't as commonly available in that size from most sellers, but it is out there.

well you make some very nice looking pot calls and I like how on some of yours you have like a blasted triangle on the surface. I think it adds to the looks. I was looking at stuff awhile ago and saw They make a blasted crystal which I haven't heard very many people talk about and also a blasted copper which I thought would be interesting. I guess I would love to hear crystal for a sound board if you make them or if you get bored and want to try to make one. I guess I am always looking for something just a touch different than what everyone else is using thanks for the reply

My Lyman Green Slate is a Slate/Slate combo in Bocote.  With the Ipe striker Bill sent the call sounds very much like a glass call, with the ease of playing found in a slate call.
