I think you're missing out that you can still ask questions in a thread as before, it just an adjustment so that the first public "I'll take it" wins. You're attempting to make it seem like something it's not or would hinder future sales when really it doesn't do anything but create complete transparency and keep people honest....

If option #2 was adjusted to how it actually should be, I'd go with that. But you obviously knew that.
