I often get a first season tag because I forget to send in for the first lottery. This was a tough year. I was on birds every day but just could not get one in range. Hens, me moving at the wrong time, and everything in between that could happen did happen. I was in the woods for 7 days straight ( first 2 days were youth season) and it was tough for sure. Great job .
They were odd for sure but some of them would work.  Mid/late morning was a lot better for us.  Buddy of mine that is a crazy good turkey hunter also blanked so I know they were tough. I should have tagged out but didn't.  Some bad luck, some bad decisions.  I'd rather call a bird in for a friend than kill one any day so I'm happy.  Learned a lot as usual.  Good luck next season.  My Brother In Law has a Crab 3 tag so I'm hoping to call in his first bird for him.  I'll be back after them 5th season.

I have a 5th season tag too. I hope it is a little easier .

We'll probably be chasing the same Shawnee Hills birds!  Good Luck, I'll give you a scouting report if I can.

Same here but I'll message you.  No sense telling the whole world!   :funnyturkey:

That surely does look a lot like where I used to hunt in Pope County, getting up at 3 a.m. to make the two hour drive and be where I wanted to get by 5:30 a.m. That is truly beautiful country. I did that trip many, many times until White County got its own season. I still make it to the woods by 5:30 a.m., but catch a few more winks before that ol' alarm boosts me from a warm bed! Compared to the White County gobblers, I found the Shawnee National Forest birds more difficult to work since there were few fields in which to set up and the country is full of ridges and valleys. Got to love those relatively open fields close to the brushy nesting areas.
