I have an old Winchester model 37 that's in great shape but it's only a 2 3/4 gun... I was thinking about having it cutdown and threaded for a choke? Which ammo would work best? and maybe have a mount drilled/tapped on for a Burris or Vortex sight. Looking for opinions on how to go about it......also would like to have it camo dipped.

I would leave the old 37 in its original condition, too many guns on the new and used market that have all the bells & whistles that your looking for. The 870 can be picked up used that has the 3in. Chamber, screw in choke,  camo and fitted with sling cheaper than what your going to spend modifying that classic Winchester model 37.

We'll see.....I have plenty of designated turkey guns!! Semi, pump, single, 20 and 12. Just thinking this could be an interesting project something different ya know?

If an old red letter 37 ,check what the gun is going for. They have taken on a collectable value and what some are asking is just plain silly.
You could buy a fully loaded 870 for that money.

Jknight7

Yeah if this 37 was a red letter I surely would be fooling with it haha it is in good shape but it's a later model

I shoot several 12 gauge 2 3/4" loads with good results, including Fed 7s 1 1/4 ounce and Hevi-13 6s 1 1/2 ounce.  I suspect the TSS would be awesome, but haven't loaded any.  Going to experiment after turkey season and load some 2 3/4 ounce duplex Hevi-13 loads: 4x5x7, 4x7, 5x7, etc.

An old Winchester Model 37, not a 37A, to valuable as a collector piece to muck around with if in excellent condition, JMHO. If it's a red letter it could almost finance a new 870.

Ya of course mine is an 37A and 20 gauge. It gets to go turkey hunting with me.
One of these days it might get threaded and choked by Sumtoy.

winchester is offering a 2 3/4" shell this year for their longbeard xr line.....but who knows when those will be availible!

They have the Rooster XRs in 2 3/4".  Might be worth a try.

Yep.  They do pretty good in my old 12g Browning A5, Invector Plus, 2.75"
