to count or not to count

Oblong holes...I have been told that they were actually two pellets hitting in the same area...I have not been counting them and airing on the side of caution...anyone count these as two hits?

I use my better judgment, if it looks like a tear it gets 1 - if both sides are rounded it gets 2.

Any shot material besides HS, I count as two holes. If it is HS, the oblong hole is likely from an oblong pellet or snowman, and it gets treated as one hole.

Don't really worry about it. I shoot 1 shot before season and check the gun. I use a carbide table saw blade that I used until it was wore down to a 10 1/4" circle. Trace it out on a piece of cardboard and I have a handy center aiming point to trace out as well. Long as I have good even coverage and it's on target I am done for the year.

Agreed!  If that oblong hole being one or two shot makes or breaks your pattern, then maybe you better try another load. If you have a good pattern, then a simple look should tell you it's good. No counting needed.

I agree, I have to work to pay for my toys. That being said when I get free time to go pattern a gun I do not have time to count #s on a piece cardboard. If it looks good I am going hunting (even dense pattern in 6-10 inch circle 20-40 yds. I have yet to have a turkey tell me he needed more holes lol. It's brutal enough trying to pattern a gun in my opinion.
