SKFOOTER, I can't really say. I am inclined to believe that there are so many older birds and relatively few two year olds due to bad previous hatches that there's just not been much gobbling. This turkey was an older bird judging by the hooked and very sharp spurs. He had strutted a good bit and he was alone that morning. I have seen this week hens leaving toms by 8 o'clock and around here I'd say they are not early or late. My buddies who hunt private land have heard gobbling every day and swear this has been the best year in a while. Both pieces of public land I hunt have proved to be tough to find a gobbling bird.
