I never miss. Sometimes the turkey just fails to be standing in the right spot. Then it becomes a warning shot. It should be followed up by violent fist shaking and threats.  :)

I missed one on opening day last year and of course it looked he flew a mile away. That was a Saturday, went back in to listen on Sunday (no Sunday hunting in PA) and was roosted in the same spot gobbling his head off. I went in Monday morning and had him thrown over my shoulder at 6AM.
Buts let's not talk about missing....change the subject. It's making me nauseous.

If it is early or mid day I hold go way wide the direction he flew or ran and after a few hours a crow call or woodpecker call to shock gobble if that fails I throw a few cutts in. Personally I do not think it matters either way.
