My all time favorite is a Curly Maple Slate by Matt McLain running it with one of Matt's Diamond wood Strikers...

Mine is a Tim Sandford curly flame myrtle pot, slate over aluminum...that thing will sing or can play nice and soft. Although, I have a Leopardwood slate pot ordered from Ricky Padgett that I can't wait to try out, I've heard so many great things about it...
