We have a 1200 acre block that I've killed three birds on and called in birds for others over the past two years. We have another 400 acre block that has been hunted for a total of four hours for four kills in the past two years including a 5 year old and a 4 year old.
The 400 acre block is being measured for timbering so they've run the birds off and if they timber will kill that hunt. It's right over a swamp so basically you are hunting the roost where they fly down. That's why all the birds have been killed first thing in the morning. After that, they drift off the property so with no roost trees, we'll be dead.
I've scouted the other property a ton since February (50 hours of scouting in the past 7 weeks). In the fall, I knew of 12 different gobblers that were on the property at one point. Last Spring at this time, I could identify 8-10 long beards by their pattern. This year I know of 4 and three of them are traveling together.
Could be a tough year. I've got a back up property but only aware of one spot but the guy who took me to the property is going to put his blind there after we scouted it out.
