Turkey Buster, thanks for the response! The season starts here in Oklahoma this Sunday, so I'm pretty excited to go hunting!

Well, kshutt, guess we got some helpful advice, which is what we wanted to know, being new to turkey hunting.  This will be my second year to hunt turkey and kshutt has been my mentor on many things about  fire arms.  I'm very disappointed in a response that brought in the ethical statement of any person shooting a turkey beyond 40yds, and said BS.  I was there pattering my new Mossberg 835 by kshutt as my instructor on how to go about this process.  I was not using Winchester LB ammo, I was using the Winchester supreme double load, 4shot, 1300vol. I was very impressed with the performance of the LB in kshutt's 835 using the Winchester LB.  As I too was curious, just how far will it keep a tight pattern, so we did just that.  Tested to see, I know that with the terrain kshutt and I will be hunting on, we can not shot beyond 40yrds.  I also recall the conversation setting up at 45 yrds that I mentioned this is probably the max distance to shot a turkey because the pattern is spreading bigger and would ruin the meat and put too many pellets into the body.  One other point to be made about shooting beyond 40 yrds, at kshutt's and my age, I don't know how his eyesight is, but it was getting difficult to place the egg shape head in the sights for me.  So I don't see either of us taking a shot beyond 30yds do to a lot of different factors.  Still fun testing out the new LB ammo and learning about pattering a turkey gun.  That being said, those members with helpful advise, thanks, mentors are very appreciated because I would like to teach my son to turkey hunt, those members whom lurk to be negative, thanks to for teaching how not to be a future mentor for my nephews and my son.  Kshutt, I hope somebody will help you on the choke diameter question, if not, after turkey season we shout pattern your 935 with different chokes, document it and share on here for others to maybe use for their questions or curiosity.

If you're looking for tight patterns from the LongBeards in Mossberg 835/935 you'll be hard pressed to better the patterns from a Tru Glo SSX or the .675 Indian Creek for hunting purposes. They'll both shoot 4s,5s and 6s very well. But be WARNED the resulting patterns with either choke and any of the shot sizes loaded in the Lomgbeard shells will be tight so there isn't much if any wiggle room up close (30 yds and under)

Thanks SCDieselDawg, I will pass this on to kshutt and I'm sure it will be discussed during our drive to the hunting location early tomorrow,  it's an hour drive so he explains a lot to me during these drives.  He will be pleased to hear the information about the Indian Creek .675, I believe he is in the process of ordering that model and diameter size.  I'm new to hunting, been hunting for 4 years as a deer hunter and his is my second year for turkey, there is nothing like sitting in silent and patiently waiting for the gobble of the turkey's waking up and preparing to fly down, I can't wait to get my son, (4) now so it will be awhile, out and teach him all I've learned about turkey hunting.  Again, thanks.
