That's what it's all about!!   Getting out there and letting the child have fun, it's not always about killing.  You did your son a great service by not pressuring him into shooting one of those birds.  My hat's off to you!

You really done the wright thing by not  saying anything about shooting the bird. What ever you do make if as in-joyable as you can an you will have a best friend to hunt with that you have ever had not only a SON.
