I shot a lot of nitros today out of the bps and I want some feedback.

I semi polished the barrel last night and I ran a bore snake through the barrel after each shot. The results are in not particular order.

Kicks .690
Mega weight 4567 nitro
10" circle
Four shots
Average is 240

Sumtoy .700
Mega weight 4567 nitro
10" circle
Two shots
Average is 252

Kicks 690
#6 mega weight straight
10" circle
Two shots.......159 and 157

I am totally happy with the quad plex mega weights. They put a lot of pellets in the 10" circle.
I was pretty amazed at the low numbers of the straight 6's. It is mega weight so the count per oz is supposed to be 201.  Since I was shooting 2.5oz loads, that means there was about 500 pellets total.
For comparison reasons, I think a Winchester longbeard  12 ga #6 3.5" has maybe 450 pellets and the most all of the patterns on the 12 ga forum have over 200 in the 10".

In other words....where are the pellets?

Here are the pattern pictures of the sixes. I did not have a lot of flyers.

i have tested alot of combinations out there, 8 different chokes and 15 types of shells...winner is...indian creek .690 mega-weight straight 6's and the mega-weight 4/5/6/7 combo...300 plus in that circle whenever i touch the trigger.   BPS 10 ga  26" barrel, w/forcing cone lengthened, w/polished barrel

The best 10 gauge comb is I've found are

Nitro 210h. Straight 7 hevi -- and a rhino 685*******380 pellets in a 10 inch

Nitro 210h triplex ---- rhino 720 -- 340to370

Nitro 2.25 ounce straight #5 hevi   and rhino 685 *** 170-180 ( devestating knockdown)

Kicks 690 and federal hw7 ***** 218 ( hard hitting load)

Thanks for the help.
I would think the mega weight 6's would have similar knockdown as compared to the hevi 5 load you mentioned. I think I am just going to hold them as a second shell in the gun.

The next load I want to try is the straight hevi 7's in a nitro load.
Or a mega weight 8 if they ever make that.

One last thing...the bps is very hard to cycle after shooting a nitro. The shell expands in the chamber and wants to stick. It only happens with the nitros. Does this happen to anyone else?

Miburmanelly

make sure you order the 'B' suffix load from nitro, i never had a problem with cycling, i did however have cycling issues with the non "B" suffix .
B = browning

I used to shoot the 101L 3 oz. #4 nickel plated lead shot load through my BPS 10 with a Rhino .685 and a Kick's .690.  I averaged around 180/10".  It was a pretty devastating turkey thumper.

I find it interesting that guys here who spend a lot of time and money patterning and sharing their expensive data consistently find the Kicks and Rhino chokes to work best with the Nitro mega and hevi loads, where Nitro recommends either the Jelllyhead or Indian Creek chokes (SP10 for the JH, all others IC) in 690.

You think they test the Kicks choke, or do you think because it is not recommended for other than lead they stay away for liability reasons?  Just seems that the Kicks choke does EVERYTHING well.  Thoughts??

The Sumtoy out patterned the kicks for me with nitros on average. I think the reason the reason Sumtoy is not reccomended on the nitro site is that they are not mass produced. William made mine for me on request.
The kicks is a good choke though. Nothing against it. It just did not work better for me and this set up.
