i have a 870 Supermag with the thumbhole stock and short barrel. I have been swapping chokes around. trying to find something to really pull it together. It has turned into more of a game now to see how many shots to get in a 10" or 15" circle at 40 and 50 yards.

Today I shot it with the ventilator choke in using Heavy 13 #7 2 1/4oz.

I will make additional posts of the pictures from the 50 and 40 yard patterns. Any ideas or past experiences to help in the process would be greatly appreciated.

That was the 40yard sorry the pictures are not working for me....

358 in a 15" circle
219 10"
120 in bird

50 yard
262 in a 15" circle
147 in the 10" circle
88 in the bird

after these I have moved the site up and over so I will have an update tomorrow. It got to dark on me tonight lol

Nice... I can't wait to pattern my 870 with the ventilator choke....

Get ahold of some of the older lower lot # starting with the number 2 or 3 and that will get way better yet.

Not to ruin your post, but I'll prove what I say to be true.

And this is only a 3" load of 7's with a 2 something lot #.  I'll have to show you the link since posting it here won't all show.

The 10" was 283 on this pattern from the cardboard backer.

I'll say that my guess is 90% of the time the bigger payload from the 3.5" shell will out shoot the 3" smaller payload from my findings.

these boxes I picked up this week from another hunter....they are all lot number 3.......

All of them are 3 1/2" trying not go broke doing this either lol they aint cheap

good patterns....I have a 1187SM with a ventilator on it just dying to try some 3.5" H-13 #7's.

My 12ga M1 with 2oz loads and the ssx are putting up 280-300 consistently with h13 7's

Well I have never ran a 3.5" Hevi-13 #7 through a Ventilator since I only have a 3" 870.  I always figured that it would shoot very well.  But if what you say is true on the lot number, then I'm gonna tell you that the .655 is too tight for those loads.  It should do close to 300 shot in the 10" or more would be my guess with a great choke.  But that pattern will kill one all day and then some at 40yds.  You might want to go with a 3" shell later on and try that.

What barrel length are you shooting?
