I'm thinking about trying out either the .655 or .660 Gobblin Thunder for my 870.  Have any of you used this combo?  What shells worked well for you?  I'm planning on shooting #5's.

I have a .665 in my 870 and it like 4's better than 5's. Thats Win 3.5 2oz (black shells). Got some Longbeards to try but to cold now.

I believe the Kicks website shows .660 best for #5s.Dont have any experience, just going off their recommendation.

I'm going to give the Win Longbeard XR's a shot.  From the looks of the patterns, do you guys think a .660 would be too tight if I'm shooting 5's?

I have an 870 with a .665 jellyhead. I have tried several shot sizes and brands of loads. I've still yet to come up with a combo I really like. I shoot 3". I have bought a box of #5 and #6 long beards to try, hopefully one of them will like my gun/choke combo. Good luck on your search, hopefully you won't have to spend as much as I have on getting a combo that works for you

I shoot rem870 wingmaster/ Kicks .660. Shoots over 100 in a 10 @ 40 with Win HV 5's Pb. Kicks recommends the .660 with 5's. In my other rem870/ Kicks .655 it will turn 140-150 with Win 3/2/6's Pb. Going to run longbeard 6's out of the .655 and longbeard 5's out of the .660. Haven't patterned yet with the longbeards but I'm hearing good things about these combos. Seems like the place to start. Will post results after shooting.

*the .660 will shoot Pb 5's and 6's good out of my guns.

I shoot an 870 with .665 kick's. I shoot #5 lead. Winchester and federal lead turkey loads do very well and have killed birds at 50 yards and have full confidence in the set up. I do have longbeard #5s and the result is incredible. Used a range finder to shoot them at 40 yards.

Based on what you've seen out of your 665 with the Longbeards would a 660 be too tight?  How long is your barrel?

26 inch barrel. Seems to me that any tighter a choke may cause it to throw the shot one way or another. This is my personal opinion, not fact or science. With the results that i had with .665 and longbeards, i have no desire to change anything.

I would try the longbeards thru the .660. You may be well satisfied. I had already been using my .665 and thats what i used for my patterning shot and performed well. Never know what any round will do until you try it

I have a 21" barrel on my 870 so I'm thinking the. 660 would be perfect.

That short a barrel should do well with these loads and tighter choke then. Guess i shoulda asked about barrel length before trying to put in my two cents! I'm sure you will be pleased

Let us know how the 3" LB 5's do through the .660. I'm still trying to find some. I found 3" 6's and 3.5" 6's.

Look on Cabelas site. They had them in stock last night. I got mine from Bass Pro but they're sold out now.

With the 3" Long Beard #6's I'm getting 200+ in the 10" circle @ 40 yds thru my 21" 1187 with a Kicks .655.  I'm gonna pattern the 3 inch Long Beard #5's this weekend in that same setup and a Jellyhead .660.  I''ll post my results. :OGturkeyhead:
