My 26" 870 with the ssx loves the HW 6s, but so far has just been so so with the 7s.

Well what's that tell ya?!  Lol.   If you're getting good patterns with the 6s I wouldn't even bother with the smaller shot, especially if they aren't patterning as good.  Like somebody already said...this 6s in a good pattern are a sledge hammer!

Well tomorrow is suppose to be 71deg here. Im gona give em a shot. I will be shooting a Mossberg bantam 20 with undertaker choke then a tightwad choke. I'll post some numbers if anyone is curious. Im with you guys about getting above 110 at 40yd. If it gets in the 130's I will probably strut and drum around in my yard until the wife tries to shoot me

Fellas dont get caught up in the numbers game. A good even pattern with 100 pellets at 40 is gonna rip ones face off at that distance and more with these shells. If all you can get is sixes, they are way better than 8 out of 10 other 20 ga choices.

We need a hammer on the nail head icon for this one. :z-winnersmiley:

Let's think about some of these numbers as what will work.  I don't order a steam roller to take out an ant but it will definitely do the job.

Well I got a chance to shoot 1 shell of #6 yesterday. I got 109 at 40yd and it was a nice even pattern. Good enough for me! Im not hung up on numbers but that sure is better than the 60 to 70 that lead gives me

You hold that bead on a gobbles head that load will kill em a lot further than we talk about on this board.

I walked this road last year. I found a surplus of HWT 6s locally and wanted to give them a go. My gun is a 26" 870. I searched around here on OG and was told to try the 6s with a unported .575 Carlson.  I haven't spent much time patterning this setup but I have shot it some. I've had it go 130-140 at 40 yds.

I'm going to apologize publicly for being seriously incorrect with the above post. I've since shot this gun and cannot replicate the numbers I originally posted. I have read over the notes that I collect after each patterning section. I honestly do believe that I mixed my info from 7s with 6s. I'm am truly sorry for any confusion I may have caused.

My accurate results trend along with everybody else in the 100 range.
