I have never done one of these. Can someone tell me how it all works?

Just register when the time comes and you will get put on a team, or you can form a team, or join an existing team if a spot is available.  Team scores are based on tallying the scores of the single, best-scoring bird from each team member,...up to the allowed team maximum (I think it was nine gobblers total for each team last year if I remember correctly).

Gobblers are scored by the established NWTF scoring system in which the score is determined by the weight of the bird plus 2X the length of the beard (or total length of all beards if it has more than one) plus 10X the total of the lengths of the spurs.

If you join the contest, you will have to have an accurate scale to weigh your bird, an accurate measuring tape, and a camera to take the documenting pictures of your birds measurements.

So first, you get on a team.  Then you go hunting and kill a gobbler.  Then you score it and take pictures to verify the score.  Report to your team on your teams section here, and post the pictures and score of your bird.  At the end of the contest, the team with the highest totalled score for the total number of birds allowed is the winner.

Of course, the winning team wins nothing,....so the whole thing is just for the fun of having the contest and all the interactions that take place between the teams and team members.

The main thing to remember is that, if you decide to enter the contest, you are committing yourself to go through the process of scoring your bird, taking the appropriate photos, and posting everything for your team.  There is some work involved,...and you have to have the appropriate "tools" to accomplish that work.

There always seems to be a few teams that have members that are all excited about participating in the contest, but then fail to follow through by doing the work needed to help their team.  If you join the contest, just be sure you make the commitment to stick with it, do the required documentation, and not let your team down.

...It's as simple as that!
