Fastfire out of adjustment ? ? ?

Got my 870 back from being drilled and tapped for the 336 base put my FF on and shot it several times at about 10 yards and it ran out of adjustment before it got to POA about 6 inches low. Any ideas guys what is going on ? ? ? The left and right worked fine. I put a monte carlo stock on it would that have anything to do with it ?

6 inches seems kind of low for 10 yards, but I would try it at 25 or 30 yards. It should be alittle low at real close range do to the fact your red dot sits above your barrel so when the dot is on the target your barrel is under your dot.

Keep us informed on what you find Hayman! I am fixin to get my shotgun back after getting it drilled/taped with a 336 base. I am going to also use a protector, which I guess will raise it above the bore slightly more.

Anybody else having this issue?

The stock shouldn't have anything to do with it.   If the receiver was tapped too far back and got into the curve of the back end, the axis of the FF3 could be pointing too high and causing you to run out of range.
Another possibility is your gun inherently shoots low due to a barrel issue, but 6" at 10 yards would mean a pretty wonky barrel.  I think you could compensate by shimming the rear of the 336 base.   I had sight in problems with my FF3/336 combo, but that was all due to some sloppy work by a gunsmith in the drilling and tapping.  Burris customer service came to the rescue.  I'll post about it.

Just a little update shot a few more shells today I adjusted the sight all the way down and blowed dirt on the target then raised it up all the way and still about 4 inches lower than i would like. so i took it all apart and shimmed it up in the rear I had a extra gasket that goes between base and sight I cut it in half and put 2 layers under rear of sight. Then back to range it shoots just right with 2 shims and maxed out all way up I suppose it will work but not the way I like to do things especially my hunting equipment. I have a guard to add also not sure what will happen then. Does anyone know if you can send the sight back and have it recalibrated and add some height adjustment ? Oh and it is mounted on the flat of the receiver.......Thanks for any ideas

Hayman, I don't own a FF yet, but am fixin to rig my SBE up with one. Sound like to me there might be a flaw with the sight. If you have it mounted correctly, like it appears you have, it should have plenty of adjustment. Heck I have seen them mounted on top of scopes.

Maybe BurrisOptics will chime in, he seems to be a very big help with others FF issues I have read in other post.

I may be out of place by saying this, but IMO there seems to be something not quite right with some (a few-allot? I don't know) of the FF sights when it comes to the elevation setting. I feel my FF III is also not acting correctly in my mind as to how the elevation adjustment should work. Heck, I'm not even sure if it's not my gun ( SBE II), but I had my FF III base shimmed at the rear to make the sight work on my gun for elevation. I ended up removing the base and shims because I just felt that if I can't get a base/sight combo to work on my gun without shimming it then I'm not going to have it on my weapon. I finally found a base that allowed the elevation to be adjusted without the need of shims. There's still a small amount of adjustment left and even thought I don't like not being able to set the sight at the "middle" of the adjustments, I guess having a small amount of adjustment left will have to do.
I'm left wondering if it is the sight then could there be a problem with the way the glass fits in the sight? Maybe it's not seated in correctly and the viewing glass is at a small angle up or down that could change how the dot is displayed on the glass? I really don't know, but it sure isn't helping me with my confidence in my FF III.

IMO you should not have to shim the base if everything else is correct with base installation. I hate to here that this is a problem, and is making me concerned about my project of getting set up with a FF on my SBE. I was tore about trying an optic in the first place, have been using 2 beads for over 25 years except for a SBE2 Steady grip that had poi problems with beads, and used a scope for a couple of seasons. Never could warm up to the scope, but the look and the numerous people using the FF, got me wanting to try on. Bought a Burris 336 base, gun is at Rob Roberts now getting drill/tapped, ordered a protector for Ol Gobbler here, so got close to 200 in project already and fixin to order a FF3, which will put it at close to the 450 to 500 mark. A pretty significant amount of coin for an Ol poor boy!!

Do any of the other small red dot optics similar to the FF3 fit a Burris 336 base, or is that my only option since that is what I am having my SBE tapped to fit??

Really got me second guessing my decision, I really do not like the idea of having to shim the base!

Others who have got theirs working please chime in to reconfirm my decision!

Mine did the exact same on my mossy super bantam and I added a shim just like you did and it works great.  Sounds like Burris needs to change something and this may be a larger problem than I thought it was.

I am going to take my other FF off of my other shotgun this evening and see how it does on this gun to make sure that it is not a problem with this gun. I will report back

Changed sights this evening took my FF off of my sons 870 and put it on mine shot it a few times at 25 yds got it sighted in and then counted the clicks that was left for the up adjustment and had 26 clicks left. So I would think my new sight just don't have enough up adjustment...? ? ?.

Are you gonna send it back? Being you have plenty of time till next turkey season, if it were mine, I would sure want it right.
