I've also heard some people saying that rust was a problem on some of the matte finish Remington 870's.  I've always just wiped mine down with Rem Oil after hunting all day with it & so far hadn't had any problems.  Just wonder if some of them came from the factory with something different about the metal that's causing some of the rust problems.  Or they might just be like some of the old Browning A-5's I used to see that seemed like would rust while you looked at them.

I use Weapon Shield now on all of my firearms here in the Rain soaked area of the Pacific Northwest and have no issues with rust on my Pistols, rifles and shotguns. Saw a demo video on the Ruger forum where a person used different oils including frog Lube on a metal plate and then left it out in the weather. At the end of the test the Weapon Shield had no rust and all of the others did. It also works great on the rails of any semi auto. Just my experience.

Weapon Shield, now I have heard of that one but never tryed it.

cjordan, I took my Remington 597 .22LR earlier to scope it in. And man, I do know what you mean when you say they are rust bucket's. The longer I shot and had it out in this hot humid weather, the more the barrel started settin up rust. Not I cleaned it with some of this Remington Rem Oil with Imhibitor. It cleaned up nicley but still not sure how long it will help it. Remington got some really crappy factory finish problems goin on. I had this rifle for afew years and it just now starting to rust it. After a good cleaning Im going to coat it with gun grease for storage. Thats where it started to rust from, in storage. But I did manage to get it scoped in and able to put some tight groups up at about 40 yds. No need to zero it at and any longer distance then that. But anyways, sorry for goin off topic, but now Im in the same shoes as you. Great gun but the finish sucks. Im going to look in of this Inhibitor product and see how it does. Rem Oil is not helpin these kinds of finish.
