Mark 4:35-41
New International Version (NIV)
Jesus Calms the Storm
35 That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, "Let us go over to the other side." 36 Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. 37 A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. 38 Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, "Teacher, don't you care if we drown?"
39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, "Quiet! Be
still!" Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.
40 He said to his disciples, "Why are you so afraid? Do you
still have no faith?"
41 They were terrified and asked each other, "Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!"
Ever been through a storm in life? Have you ever just become overwhelmed by the world events of the day? I sometimes get so frustrated by current events that I just want to... do SOMEthing... but find myself just stewing in the frustration. When I take the time to stop and realize, Jesus is right here in the boat with me... God is not surprised by the events in our lives, in this nation or in the world. He isn't perplexed by any situation, or by the response of any individual, government or people.
As Jesus displayed in the verses above, He has the power to calm both the storm around us, and within us. As we also see, it must be frustrating to Him when we don't recognize that even when the storm is raging, He is in control.
If you've ever been through a stormy time in life, or if you are in the thick of it now, take a few minutes to listen to the 2 songs below.
