535 which loads to start patterening with?

Just bought a new 535. I'm looking for suggestions or what others have had good luck with. I purchased a Mueller quick shot red dot and will be polishing the barrel this weekend. I'd like to shoot 3" loads 6s or 7s. Hoping to get good results with the .670 un-ported choke that came with the gun. Lead loads are more available locally and cheaper. Ive heard most Winchester loads do well in the 535's. I'm not opposed to buying hevi 3-2-6 and a hevi shot choke. Let me know what you think. Thanks

I'd say stick with #5 if you are using lead and try the Winchester supremes. They shot well in my 535 with the factory choke. If you got HTL, make sure your factory choke is rated for it. Mine wasn't. I like the Hevi 7's.

to get good patterns with my thumbhole 535, i used 3.5 inch Winchester #5 to get 96 in 10" at 40 yds with a Jellyhead .660. Lead 3 inch shells just didn't put many holes at that distance. However, Hevi-13 3"-2oz-#6 was 140+ at the same distance with the same choke.

Whiskey which HTL choke did you buy? Yes the factory choke mine came with says lead only. I didnt weather to get a .660 or .665.

I got a .670 Pure Gold. I found a deal on it on eBay and it works well for me. I am not looking for a long range gun. I want solid 40 yard patterns.

If they hang up too far out I just jump up and sprint 20 yards then wing shoot them.

With that very same gun and choke my best pattern at 40 yards were with FED FCW 3" 5's

I've had 3 of those guns. I had 2 friends who wanted 2 of them so I only have 1 now and it's the combo gun with short turkey barrel with sights and longer waterfowl barrel.

I really like those guns. They handle well and pattern exceptionally well. Mine have had good triggers and all 3 have shot to point of aim.

The best lead shells have been the White Lightning and the best tungsten-based shot shells have been the Hevi-13s, both in 3" with #6 shot.

I've shot a variety of chokes with those guns. The turkey chokes that came with those guns were just not satisfactory and patterns were very poor. I've had very good patterns with both of those shells through the Hevi-13 chokes and the SSX. The Pure Gold "Tempest" also worked well.

It is very important to "deep clean" the barrels of those guns. Even if it looks clean, it's not, in my experience. Once I deep cleaned the bores, I was very impressed with the quality of the bore.

I looked on spectrashot.net and from what I have seen, do the white lightning shells only come in a 6 shot?

Currently shooting hevi- shot choke tube (.662) with hevi-shot #7's (3 1/2") out of my 535 and couldn't be happier.  A deadly combination in my gun, I don't think you would be disappointed.
