My neighbor was getting his maple syrup buckets ready to go so I thought I would go out and have a look today and see if the birds were moving. They seem to have begun breaking up from their winter flocks which is a good sign. With a high of 2 C (35 F) today it's starting to look like spring. With about 6 weeks left to wait for the Ontario season to open I will be looking forward to hearing about your hunts to help me through. :you_rock: Anyone else been out scouting for the season opener :icon_thumright:

I got my trail camera out , going to go check it today. Might take cutter with me since the snow has melted.  Lots of birds here but thay still are in thier winter flocks, if the holds they  should be breaking up soon.  Let you know what i find today.

Hens still in larger flocks.  Gobblers in 2's and 3's right now.

That's good.  I don't want them splitting up too early.  I'll be scouting next weekend.  I expect they'll be starting to split up and get into the groove.  Season starts April 9th so everything should be on schedule.

Rode over 100 miles on the gravel roads Sunday looking for some places to hunt and some turkeys. Snowed all day, and didn't see any turkeys. So far my scouting has produced some new prospective public land but very few birds. Going out tomorrow for a while.

Heading back out Saturday am.  I'd like to spend the whole weekend at the camp but the wife is pushing me to attend a 3 year old's birthday party Saturday afternoon.  Tough call.  I guess if I cave on this one I might be able to pull a guilt trip during the season to buy me one extra morning in the woods.

I went monday and tuesday mornings. Monday I saw four longbeards but heard no gobbles. Tuesday morning I saw zero longbeards but heard 4 or 5 gobbles.

I think they are still about a week or two from starting up real good in my area. The turkeys arent out in the fields at all yet. The toms i did see were by themselves and i didnt see any hens at all, although i did hear some that were a ways from where the toms came from. They will be ready when the time comes....

Saturday am I heard three long beards together, one hen and one that was far off and couldn't tell if it was a jake or gobbler.  A friend heard three more a few hundred yards from me and a hen.

Sunday I went to another property.  We didn't hear anything but saw one long beard right where I told him to set up the blind.  There is a field that narrows toward the back.  Tons of tracks in the field and they all head toward the back of it.  I cleared out a spot for him to put a blind and an hour later when we were driving out there was a gobbler right back there.  Now I have to convince him to hunt some where else and get my gobbler lounger in there!!!
