Maybe I am in the minority, but I think the NCAA way overstepped their bounds. They can't even get the student athlete part right, and now they are delving into criminal investigations and prosecution?

ccleroy

How did they overstep their bounds? They hid this and covered it up for years just to save the face of their football program, period......it should have received the death penalty. Joe knew all to well what was going on and did nothing, all he cared about was what this would do to tarnish his legacy and team......screw em'

You do realize by holding everyone responsible for what sicko's do, that does include the mfg of firearms. Who is responsible for the Colorado shooting, the sicko or the people who made the guns realizing that some wacko somewhere was going to use them to kill innocent people. It USE to be they punished the guilty, but now we are looking to punish everyone remotely part of what happened, even if it involves millions of innocent people.

Jay, so they shouldn't punish the Joker because it may also have an effect on his family. They are not trying to punish the one who created peckers. Can't see any way to take down his legecy without injury to some innocent.

Larry

I thought I was clear on this. The danger of what is going on the last 25 years is the tendency to go after not just the people involved in a felony, but anyone else they can that are even remotely involved, including even the innocent. Do all the people involved with Penn State really deserve what's going on because of the screwed up leadership? Did any of the athletes on that football program have anything to do with what went down there. What violations did they commit?  Do the Boy Scouts deserve to be sued because there have been some pedophile leaders? Should guns be taken away because of more wackos killing people with them? I'm more comfortable with how it use to be, when we just went after the felons, and not who SOMEONE feels should be held responsible besides them. That gets a little crazy, and it is the same reaction that puts us in jepardy of losing our guns.

I think we should shut down all the catholic churches because of a couple priests. PSU should be punished , but punish the people who did it. Corbett  knew about this in 98 the same as the board of trustess, and he did nothing ,to  interrested in the governer job , The  DA at the time said there wasn't enough evidence to prosacute , and then he disapeared. DON't get me wrong, IF there was a cover up people should be punished, but taking twenty scholrships away for four years just robbed twenty students of a good education ,and if I could tell you what I think should be done to Sandusky and his wife , you can't convince me she didn't know.

turkey slayer

i agree its a rough one.

captin_hook

I agree that this is a tuff one. The whole basis for this punishment is to hurt the organization. Players with scholarships are allowed to transfer, and psu scholarship players will be swept up. As far as the 20 minus scholarships a year:::: if you're a highschool football player and are being looked at by psu, you have many other division one schools looking at you too. So these players have many other options, just not psu. The money is nothing, just 1 year revenue. The thing that is getting to the diehards  of psu is the wiping out of paternos wins. And taking his name off everything and taking his statue down. Me... I could care less about psu anymore, I think this was so bad that the ncaa should've shut down all sports at the college just because of the wide spread corruption involved in this one instance. I mean the darn president of the university knew about it!  How much worse can it get.? Who knows how deep this really goes. I don't think this is over by a long shot.

What gets me is what those guys get paid to make the right decisions, and this was the route they went? You've got to be kidding. If they would have hung the aho out to dry from the start, they would have been fine. Pedophiles lurk everywhere, so handling this correctly wouldn't have brought bad publicity to the University, just the opposite. It was the same route the Vatican took on the coverup on the bad priests, and that went well ::)
