How do you polish and deep clean a barrel?

Just that simple, I don't know how to polish and deep clean my gun barrel.  I own a camouflage benelli nova, and I have no idea of what you guys mean with "polishing" the barrel.  Help me out.

I followed the instructions and actually could tell a difference in my pattern....not a huge difference, but it was there. It probably wouldn't have mattered on a bird, but I'll take all the help I can get.
