SC Bird
April 02, 2012, 10:33:58 PM
After a great morning hunt and a missed opportunity by my hunting partner I found myself slipping back into a spot we had seen some birds earlier that morning. As I eased around a small point along the fields edge I noticed a nice Gobbler with two hens standing in the field not more than 150yrds away. As he turned his attention towards the hens I was able to slip out about 10yrds and place my DSD Jake and Upright Hen in the field where I felt he might be able to see it. As I got setup into position He and the hens seemed to have worked their way about 20-30yrds closer.
I clucked and purred on my Warbird Slate Call and was able to get his attention. Surprisingly... he eased his way towards me spitting and drumming as he came closer. He finally saw the Jake and came in on a dead run. I clucked three times to stop him dead in his tracks and let him have a load of hevi-shot. First South Carolina bird to date.
