870 trigger

My boy was shooting his turkey gun today and it seems he is struggling with the trigger pull. He is going to be 8 next month. I put my trigger scale on it and got 5.5 lbs. His 243 accutrigger is 2 lbs and he shoots it very well. Just wondering what options are out there to get it down to around 3 lbs safely. I saw the Timney Fix but it seems a little over-priced. Any help would be great. With everything that goes thru a kids mind when a gobbler shows up I don't want him stressing about the trigger.

Patriot sear spring replacement will help, but it doubt it will take it down to 3 lbs.  I put one in my 870 and its probably between 4 to 4.5 lbs.  Cost about 15-20 bucks.
Or you could try the remington trap sear... It will probably take it down and maybe a half a pound or so.

If you have a gunsmith close, you can get a spring that is much lighter from him and either have him install it or do it yourself. A Remington sporting clays spring will work well.

Thinking of changing my spring too , good info

I snipped the spring a little (maybe 1/4 coil) and now it is 2 lbs. I am not sure if this is safe so I will probably replace with new spring. I shot a empty primed hull to see if it would go off and the first one did not. 3 more did go off and two loaded shells went bang. The primer strikes looked normal. Could anyone tell me if this is a bad idea.
