sights/scopes?

Hello people,

This is my first post on the forum.. looks like a great place!

Here's a question: I am thinking about getting a scope. I was thinking of a Redfield Revolution scope and a saddle mount as my Benelli Nova pump is NOT drilled and tapped.

I would appreciate some feedback, opinions and comments on this set up. Should I consider another sighting system? I will also use this for deer next fall.

My brother has the same gun and used a red dot instead of a scope. He liked the faster target aquisition and was still accurate enought for the 50-75yd shots during deer season. Hope this helped

I'm a scope guy myself. I have a Burris Fullfield TAC30 on my 835, and I really like it alot!

What about the fiber optics? Williams or Truglo?

This is deep into turkey season. So you may not get a lot of responses...We are very busy.
You got three types of sights.
Fiber optic and williams style block the view of the bird and require you have your head on the stock.
Scopes have magnification(a plus) a limited field of view(minus) and can cause scope eye.
Red dots have unlimited field of view, no scope eye and are lighter.
Do a search for "burris fastfire" and  another for"Mueller".
Burris is more expensive and mueller is bigger and heavier.
How much can you spend?

I live in Ontario, Canada. Our season opens April 25.

I can spend up to about $150ish give or take... maybe a bit more, but that would include any mounting devices/accessories...

Here is my questions; are these sights you recommend turkey specific or can they be used for different hunts, like deer? If not, can they be removed so that I can use a different sight, like a scope for deer (although I'd rather not buy multiple sighting systems)? How are they mounted? I was considering the saddle mount system for the scope...

I guess I'd like to get the best all-around system b/c I use my gun for both deer and turkey (can't get a dedicated gun for either right now..)

Concerning mounting systems Talk to Redarrow, he went through this a year or so ago with a Benelli nova, I know he uses a scope but he has different reasons for it than most ( Eye problems )

For Dual Purpose you may want to go with a scope.
I hate saddle mounts.
I would either make that gun a great deer gun with a scope and make do during turkey season or vice versa.
For that price a weaver/picatinny style base and Muiller sight would be the best turkey rig I could come up with.
As far as deer, I hunt with rifles and have little experiance with shotgun slug/scope combo. I shot a gun with a cantilever barrel and never could get it set. I think it had more to do with the sandbags than the setup. I think the recoil was pulling it off target.
A red dot will work for deer and a scope will work for turkey.   When you do get another gun what will this gun be used for? I assume turkey.
The season is great here. I am two birds in to a three bird limit and one was a double beard.

Check out chatterbox with the 835 and burris tac 30. I don't know about this scope but that is how i would setup a deer shotgun if it was all I could use.

Hi again again.. does the Burris Fastfire or Mueller require drilling and tapping? How are they mounted? I'd rather not drill n tap.

Well yes and no.
you got three options:
1.Saddle mount- they use the pins that hold trigger mechanism in place.
2.Your reciever is already drilled and tapped and you use a picatinny/weaver base for either sight or the Marlin 336 base for the Burris Fastfire.
3. You drill and tap it to use the Marlin 336 base for the Burris Fastfire.

Because you asked I assume the reciever is not tapped.
So that leaves a saddle mount or drilling and tapping.

That's good to know! They are well priced, too.. Should be good for deer too, I hope. They're advertised as a "deer and turkey" scope.. so should be good out to 75 yards I hope.
