The night before it had rained all night so I knew it was going to be a slow morning. Got there early, as expected did not hear a single gobble. This is a pretty big lease and there was 3 more hunters that were gone before 8:00 so that tells you how dead it was. Well as you all know You cant kill em if your not in the woods. So I hung around and made a late morning setup and did some light calling after sitting there for about an hour I heard 1 gobble. I really couldn't tell how far off it was because of the terrain. After another
45 minutes with my eyes peeled I heard some leaves rustling, he had made it all the way to me and spotted my dsd decoy. I have two dsd decoys and I used the upright hen instead of the feeding and for some reason the upright made him a little nervous. I try and face the decoys away from where i think they will approach but the wind turned it facing his way and he hung up at 35 yards. well after realizing he wasn't going to come any closer I dropped him in his tracks. On the way back to my truck I was thinking that this was the 2nd time Ive had a bird hang up because of the upright hen it might be the feeding hen from here on out.
