Striker wood?
February 15, 2012, 01:11:30 PM
Am looking to get three or four new strikers in various woods. What would be a few good would types that would give me a good spectrum of sounds on various glass and slate calls?
Thanks for any help

I have a paduk, zebrawood, and will be getting a yellow heart soon. I have cherry that sounds nice on crystal also.

Black Locust is about as good as it gets. It runs well on everything.

Sometimes one wood will work good on both slate and glass, depends a lot on the calls. You can put a lot of money into strikers and still not end up with what you want.
What sound are you trying to get? Raspy? Clear? That might help in choosing a wood.
I actually sent my calls to a gentleman on here and he did a great job "matching" some strikers for my calls but you have to trust their judgement and ear.
Good luck!

I have Sassafras, black walnut and mountain Laurel strikers that sound good on slate and glass.
