A new order of 12ga 2 3/4" Win Partition Gold slugs showed up at my house yesterday, and their advertised velocity has dropped from 1900fps to 1725fps!  WTF???  I'm sure they probably never actually reached 1900fps out of a standard barrel anyway, but now they're even slower?  That's just fuggin' great!   >:( >:( >:(

Reloader

That really stinks :D

I bought 8 boxes at Bass Pro a few weeks back.  Cost me $135, but didn't have time to wait on shipping.  These were all the same lot # and all advertised at 1900fps.  It does suck that they changed.  They had several more boxes if you want to pay the higher price. $16.79/box for the 2-3/4"  They had just gotten in some 3" PTGs too, advertised at 2000fps. Ouch!

I saw a rumor posted out there on the interwebs stating that a Winchester/Olin rep claimed that the round hasn't changed...rather they wanted the advertised velocity to better represent what can be expected from a standard slug barrel.  I don't buy that for a second...

Preacher

I at one time swore by Honrdy SST,  but with a mis-fire and jamming problems and a noticable lack of knock-down power this year,   I am in the market for a new set-up.    I have heard good things about Rementon copper-solids.     Do yall have any info on them?      My father-in-law liked the rem. accu-poit performance but ,  18.00$ bucks a box is a little pricey.

The Rem Copper Solids are decent...just lower velocity.  Some of my buddies really like the Winchester Platinum Tips, but they're getting harder to find.  From what I understand, it's a version of their Fail Safe bullet.  It's listed velocity is 1700fps.  If it stays that way, I might switch.   ;)

Spring Creek Calls

I shot the Platinum Tips for years with good success. They are not on the shelf in my neck of the woods anymore. I switched to the Win BRI with good accuracy but no blood trail. Took me 2 hours to find a double lunged buck last month. Both lungs still intact with a perfect dime sized hole thru both. They must be really hard!

I've heard that about the BRI's.  They shoot well, but don't expand much...until they start to tumble.   :D

CB on the run

Where I live in western NY is still shotgun/ML only but the surrounding counties are starting to open up to rifles.  I've owned or fired just about everything out there with exception to a Tar-Hunt.  Most shotgun shell velocities are tested from 30" barrels so maybe they are trying to give a more realistic velocity out of the standard rifled shotgun barrel.  Many gun makers are increasing the twist rate of there rifled barrels to properly spin the sabot slugs available on the market but, IMO, if they push the velocity too fast the plastic is not going to grab the rifling thus losing accuracy.

I agree wholeheartedly, BUT changing a product that customers have tested and trusted is a "dickish" move, even if it's just a label change.  Shooters will start second guessing.

I did some shootin yesterday with them partition golds. Had a great group @100yards out of the 20ga H&R. I guess I have the right recipe. I wanted to post a picture but haven't been on my photo bucket account in a while, and cant figure it out since they changed the format.
Happy Shootin

Winchester

I have had good performance with the Remington copper solids myself. Ive killed deer from 15 to about 125 yards with them and they have performed well!
