Finally!! :turkey2:
I was working outside this afternoon and heard 3 different birds gobble on the cattle ranch next door where I hunt. :gobble: :gobble: :gobble:
Then in the last hour of light, 4 hens came walking through my yard, followed by this big strutter!!! The hens were on turkey time, as usual, and were scratching through the leaves as they wandered through the yard. Lover boy was quite content to follow them around strutting his stuff. :turkey:
When they were through scratching they walked off into the holler right in front of one of my game cams. They eventually went out of sight, and I watched the hens fly up to roost at the end of my driveway. A few minutes later, the gobbler flew up to roost nearby. I watched him fly up to a tree about 60 yards from my house, and I could see him from my couch. Then he strutted back and forth on the limb.
They're just this week breaking up out of their winter flocks. These are the first turkeys I've seen in the yard this year. I can't wait for the season to get here!!! Even though they're always safe in the yard.

Looks like at least ones in big trouble! :turkey2:

Your probably like me, the house birds are off limits until the end of season. One year we had a long beard would come out right beside the house everyday and strut for a couple hrs. My wife would text me pictures with a smilely face and smart comment. No, I never shot him. I managed to tag out on the family farm in about a week (2 birds back then). We have lived here 38 years and I shot one about 200 yards behind the house. That's it. Now I have killed probably a dozen or more within a mile of the house, but that's different. I'd say the safe zone is 300 yards.

Jim, that's just a way cool way to spend time each day, watching turkeys in your yard!
I hope he serenades you every morning with some gobbles.
Love to hunt the King of Spring!

Glad you and your wife enjoy them as much as we do!! Love hearing and watching all the flock interactions that play out. I've learned a lot from just living with them.
