Most of my posts are simply cut and paste from morning devotionals I receive daily. But today, I felt like God placed something on my heart to try and help others with their daily walk with GHim.
Genesis 32:22-32
This is the recounting of Jacob when he wrestles with an angel (some believe it to be God Himself).The story of Jacob wrestling with an angel (or God) in Genesis 32 describes a pivotal, all-night struggle where Jacob, alone by the Jabbok river, grapples with a mysterious man. Pay attention to the fact that Jacob wrestled ALL night with this mysterious man. Can you imagine the tenacity and determination it required to do this?
24 So Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him till daybreak. 25 When the man saw that he could not overpower him, he touched the socket of Jacob's hip so that his hip was wrenched as he wrestled with the man. 26 Then the man said, "Let me go, for it is daybreak."
But Jacob replied, "I will not let you go unless you bless me."
Now I want you to imagine, wrestling all night, you have to be scared and tired. But you are so determined that the other person(angel) can not overpower you and tells you to let go. And when you dont, the being then dislocates your hip, yet you still dont let go. Not until you demand a blessing from that being. It absolutely amazes me how Jacob (later his name was changed to Israel) wants to be blessed so badly that he is willing to go through all that.
Now, and this goes for me as well, how many of us pray each night before bed for God to "bless" something or someone and then just leave it at that. I know I do. How about we take the same route as Jacob, and wrestle for all we are worth, to see that blessing come to fruition, not just pay "lip service" to our request.
