And that doesn't include your time, which you probably don't factor in because you enjoy the challenge. This is getting CRAZY! But interesting IMO.
It's not as bad as it seems, bbcoach. I buy enough materials each spring for about fifty calls and make about that many new ones prior to the season. I have an "inventory" of old calls from previous years...usually around 150+/- that I keep at the end of the spring season. These are calls that didn't quite make my final lineup for use in previous seasons.
Prior to the season, I will run through them all to see a) if the "aging" process has changed their sound, and b) to see if my perception of whether they should make this year's lineup has changed, as well. I will modify the ones that I feel are not quite up-to-snuff to see what I end up with...and if I get to the point where I think further modifications are a waste of time, I toss them.
Quite honestly, the whole process is mainly to entertain myself and pass the time waiting for the season to get here. ...And also to keep up the search for my "holy grail" mouth call.
