Dirt cheap 12 ga TSS

I know there's some guys on here that know the numbers a lot better than I do, but I was wondering more on what the maximum range of retained energy on #10 TSS shot at 1000-1200fps needed to kill a bird would be?  I think #9 is around +/-75yds so I'm thinking #10 would be 50-55ish??  I wish this was a straight #8 or #9 or a #8/9 duplex load.  I'm nervous about the #10... open country where I hunt I don't get many under 35yd shots.

I killed one this year around 55 steps with it, straight up rolled him.. I'm not sponsored or anything by them so giving you straight up feedback with them.. I seen several die in the 45-50 yard range and we never had to chase any around trying to stomp their necks, I've always used federal 7x9's & honestly I feel like these shells are just as good for 1/3 of the price.. I ordered 2 cases for my my family & a couple buddies to shoot

Thanks for the good feedback.  If you would of told me 30 years ago we would be shooting #10 shot at turkeys I would have said your nuts!!

I've seen 54 yards for 10s, at 1100 fps they get 1.25 in gel at that distance!

Many TSS loads are a little below 1100 fps.

So a 50 yard cut off seems reasonable, those tiny little things penetrate!

I gave in and bought a case.  We'll see what they look like on paper and go from there.

They will look good. The 10's will make it look like a lot better of a load than it actually is

Many of you guys' SHOOT and TOOT TSS 9's as the GREATEST thing since Sliced Bread but as soon as #10 is brought up many go into defensive mode.  What gives?  IMHO, this round is way, way OVER THE HILL for killing turkeys unless we are talking SNIPING.  No one needs a 2 1/2 oz load of anything to kill a bird at 40 yards and in.  This round even at 1000FPS is going to jar your teeth out and send you to an orthopedic for shoulder replacement.  Great price point and Great numbers on paper but definitely not needed for turkey hunting.

You will wind up with a lot more 10s hung up in the meat than 9s!

I shot 9.5 when it was the only size available, great patterns and killed everything I shot at, but had more pellets hung up in the meat than ever before!

Like it or not 50 is the new 40 generally, and at 2.5 oz it's probably further!

10 is supposed to be good to 54 ish!

Dead is dead but I hunt a lot of pressured birds in open prairie country which more times than not involves 50yd+ shot opportunities.  I shoot 3.5" 12ga and 10ga loads of TSS only as a means to reach out and kill them at these distances.  If I hunted timber birds I would certainly change my setup.

Just out of curiosity, I did hear that Federal switched from their traditional "Heavyweight" 15.2g/cc to 18g/cc tungsten material in their shells, can anybody confirm this?  If true, I wonder how a customer would know what type of shells (15 vs. 18) they have in any given box AND if the 8x10 loads that are the focus of this thread are of the 15 or 18 variety??

All of their TSS loads are 18, the old heavyweight no longer made was 15.  Also #7 was the smallest shot size in the 15gcc loads!

~$28 a pound is wild. You can't buy 10 pounds direct from China for that price per pound.

If I owned a 3-1/2" gun I'd buy a case for creeping swamp woodies

But I don't, never jumped on that 3.5" bandwagon
