Congrats on his first bird! We hunted my inlaws farm property for youth and opening day.  Had him fly down just behind some junk and my son couldn't get a clean shot.  He disappeared with a hen after that.  2nd morning he was somewhere else and came back at 2:30 of course.  We drove around quite a bit looking at fields and it is crazy the lack of birds.  Would love to know what's going on with the population there.

How's that fire that is going on impacting the hunting there?

That's awesome Mike. Looks like you got busy in a hurry after he left with his turkey. Very nice - Congrats brother!

What fire is that?

Turkeybutt

The New Jersey wild fires. I was watching that on the news yesterday and thinking about how the fire is going to affect the turkeys and the guys chasing them. Be safe!
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, tired, beat, thoroughly used up and totally worn out from chasing turkeys and loudly proclaiming; "WOW -- What a Ride!"

Hunted Monday, I could smell the smoke all morning, not a lot of gobbling. Hunted yesterday and wind was different direction, heard a lot more gobbling. Saw more vehicles at gates than usual. 2 big WMAs are shut down do to fires. Don't know if they are all related to fires. Thankfully we are getting rain today.

Bowguy Congratulations to both of you. It's great you took the time to help that hunter get his first turkey something that he will remember for a lifetime.

G.N.... I'm close to that are. That zone does hold some birds. But I won't hunt it.

I'm not sure if you saw one of my posts. I was returning home from hunting, driving through the burn. We spotted turkeys feeding in it. It was still smoldering! Craziest thing I ever saw. I never thought I'd see something like that happen that fast.

It will recover for the better, I believe.
