Sleeping in success

I would love to sleep in but I feel like I'm missing out on something if I'm not out sitting in the woods waiting for the sun to come up. It's just nice to be out there as all of nature starts to wake up and come alive. It's my alone time.

Congrats, I hate getting up at 2AM, but I also hate not knowing if there even is a Tom in the area if I am not there to at least hear him gobble on the roost. Hunting public, have to be at parking 1 1/2 hours before 1st light, pray to hear a gobble to at least be in the game. Most kills happen after hens leave.

2 am? Are you hunting turkeys or raccoons?

1 1/2 to 2 hour travel time, if no problems, lot of major highways being rebuilt. Have 1 parking lot where guy beats me to every year, we talk every time, he likes to hunt easy front field, he's fine with me hunting deeper into woods. He gets there at 1am, sleeps in truck.
Went over yesterday, waited 45 minutes before hearing first gobble, heard 1st Whippoorwill of the year!

Too each their own...but I would quit turkey hunting before I gave up gobble time.

Agreed. I don't think it gets much better than hearing the woods wake up.

Part of the reason I turkey hunt is to listen to them wakeup and watch the world come alive. If I couldn't do that everyday I'd likely quit. Yes, I've killed plenty between 9 am and noon, but I'm not missing the oppurtunity to sip coffee and listen to the woods wake up. To each their own I guess.
