Not really sure how to word this so it makes sense.
What are the differences between different callmakers pot calls that actually MAKE them different? For example, if you compare one guy's slate call in a certain wood to a different one's call; what causes the difference? Is it call shape or perhaps the thickness of the walls or something else? I know that some guys just seem to turn out a more popular call; whether it is actually better or not..I can't say.
I'm not looking to bash anyone or their calls but am genuinely curious.

Years of experimenting and perfecting the internals of the pot call. Everyone has a sound they like regardless... User / builder... Everyone has a different hen sound ...

Some of these builders have been making pot calls for 30 / 40 / 50 yrs ... plus

I've seen builders make a pot call, that I would have taken and hunted with and pitched it in the fire pit / wood stove ...It just didn't meet their expectations ( sound / tone )

Craftsmanship and finish is a plus in their calls....

All turkey calls are musical instruments in my opinion. but some are just better than others ...

A lot of the sound comes from the material the pot is made from, in conjunction with the call surface/ in conjunction with the sound board/ down to the type and amount of glue used to glue it all up. The thickness of the walls makes a difference as well as the thickness and height of the pedestal the sound board sits on. And the thickness/quality of the sound board makes a difference as well. Just like a trumpet call, they all look similar from the outside, but the internals and knowledge of the builder is what makes the difference.

Recently, I was playing another callmaker's pot call. I really liked the turkey I was hearing playing that pot call. Then I decided to test my own personal hunting striker I hunt and try it on that same pot call. I REALLY liked the turkey I heard......
