Roost 1

Headed to GA after work yesterday for the opener.  My buddy told me he had been hearing some while working on the cabin.  I did not get there in time to roost any so this morning I just went to my usual listening spot. It was a beautiful morning, partly cloudy and calm.
Never heard a bird anywhere. I chose to stay there a little longer than normal and let it get good and light so I could look for fresh sign. His place has a beautiful hardwood bottom and some nice ridges and I did find some fresh sign, so I set up and called some.
Called up a pair of hens and after they went on I moved down the creek some more, walking, calling, sitting and moving around some. Called up another hen and after that I made my way up a ridge and found a good spot to sit for a while where I could see and hear a little ways.  Around noon I thought I heard a faint gobble and after listening intently my mind wandered and I thought I heard him again however I wasn't sure.  I waited a little while and thought I'll call a little, nothing at first but then I cut really loud and bam he cut me off a couple hundred yards away. I waited about 15mins, never heard anything so I called again nothing.  About 5mins later I tried again nothing so I told myself well he knows I'm here. 20 mins later some crows holler and he answers and I can tell he's closer now.  So I wait, can't stand it anymore and cut again. Nothing!! I decide I'm not calling again unless he gobbles.  Wasn't long and I could hear some scratching just out the ridge and on the other side from where I'm facing.  By the time I have it pin pointed I felt too late to move. So I waited and as it got closer he gobbled really close and then popped up about 30 yards away.  He knew exactly where I was....  Huge thanks to my friend for allowing me to come down each year.
I have a youth to take next weekend and then my season in KY/TN kicks off on April 12.
Good luck guys!!!

Congrats sounds like a fun hunt. Amazing how they can pinpoint your exact location like they do.

I did. Those are the most coveted clothing items in the nation! So very few for the best in the country.
