This list show-cases the most important things I have learned over the years, some already listed above with great advice from top notch hunters:
Never call when pre-season scouting, listen, you'll hear them
Before the season, learn your terrain, stream, thicket, obstacle filled areas. Know where these spots are.
Be patient when you hunt, move slowly and quietly through the turkey woods
Never stop and call without picking out a large tree, set-up that is not in direct sun-light. If you don't, you'll get pegged by a close gobbler.
Don't over-call, and call quietly in calm conditions
Only adjust your gun, or move on an approaching gobbler when he is behind something. If not, you will get busted.
Finally know your firearm's capability/pattern results. Test your loads before you go afield.
Hope this helps, but always remember no one is ever an expert in the turkey woods. Everyday in the field, we all learn something new.
Good luck..
