20 gauge chokes

looking at 20 g chokes...whats a good constriction to start out with? Will be shooting tss as well

My 3 20 gauge guns shoot tighter with a little more open choke. I would start with a  constriction of 565 then go more open constriction. All depends what kind of pattern you want to achieve. My guns shoot best with a 568 constriction. What I see in tss loads they like a more open choke.

If shooting tss, i wouldn't spend a ton of money on chokes. Carlson, trulock, etc. All make chokes that shoot tss extremely well without breaking the bank. I would say somewhere between a .560 and .575 constriction will give you what you are looking for. Some shoot a .555 but that either seems to be extremely tight or starts to blow the pattern. Not much in between.

lots of good advice above, I run 1 of mine with a Sumtoy 562, one of them with a Indian Creek 555 and I have one set up for youth and close in hunting with a 585.  It is very easy to miss with the 555 because it's extremely tight at 25yds and under

Completely agree with this on every aspect. I shoot a .570

The general rule of thumb that I follow, and seems to work for me is this...

Heavy for gauge payload (>1 5/8)- .570-.585
Larger shot size (lead or 7-8tss)- .570-.585
Light/"normal" payload- .555-.570
Smaller shot (less than 8shot)- .555-.570
If shooting smaller than 8shot, with heavy payload- .570-.585

.555 is pretty volatile, and I would probably stay away from it unless youre ok with having to buy a second tube after you discover the .555 is too tight or blown out. That said, I have had really good success with .555 in some combos (even some heavy payloads with 9shot).

All that mumbo jumbo said (lol)... If I was looking to get a one-and-done choke that I know will be good out to 40 and beyond with almost any shot size/payload etc., Id get a trulock .570

New to 20ga's and TSS/turkeys...but looking to start using my Benelli Montefeltro 20ga for turkeys, and I got it used and it came with a Carlson's Hevi13 572 choke.

Some google-fu says the Hevi13 choke is suitable for TSS, and reading this thread tells me the constriction might be good for TSS? Thinking 9's... I don't have much time, but health situation has forced me to move away from my 12ga 870, and my Monte has been collecting dust and may be my best option for a quick turn-around.

I am not looking to shoot crazy far.... 45 yards or so is plenty (although more is always nice to have). I may have to shoot close, however.

As close as I'm to the season, I guess I'll run it and what I get, I get.

I don't have much choice, and circumstance says I can't keep shooting my 12ga pump, so I'll work with what I get, I guess... and then worry about optimizing things till next spring.

I run a .573 hevi 13 in a Mossberg 500. It is very versatile. Can run a few different loads with very nice patterns.
