Every year except for last year, I injure my trigger finger right before season. Cut to the bone, forklift forks smashing it, metal sliver up under the nail and out the back of the nail bed, and many other injuries. Usually the day or two before season starts. This year is no different. Sunday was the opening day of upland game bird and fall turkey season. I planned to hunt both on Monday since it was Labor Day. I was cutting a notch in a piece of plywood on Sunday with a multitool. It slipped out of the plywood and right into the side of the trigger finger into the pad and nail, hitting bone for good measure. My trigger finger hurts pretty much all the way up to my elbow. Just a type season opener for me, I guess.

Sorry to hear about your mishap. Gloves in the future might avoid this. Heal well, you were lucky not to lose your finger..

That will keep you from jerking the trigger for sure.
Hope it heals fast.  My father insisted I learn to shoot left handed too.  It's paid off for me more than once.

I am technically right handed, but very ambidextrous in most things and I have always shot bow and gun lefthanded even though I am right eye dominant. I have gotten pretty good using my middle finger as a trigger finger. At work I always use cut proof gloves dealing with metal and glass, so one would think it would be a no brainer to put gloves on at home.

We always talk about keeping your hands out of the line of fire here at work. We get a few minor first aids but knock on wood we haven't had an OSHA record able in a long time.

I would suggest cutting it off now and getting the problem child out of the way. You can already shoot with your off hand! And use an alternate finger at your normal hand!

Cut that offensive, accident prone finger off! Or maybe be less complacent, wear gloves and keep the finger out of the line of fire. It ain't that hard. On a construction site, you would be fired for multiple injuries without gloves.

Now, I will admit, I do some dumb stuff myself at home. Sorry to hear of your continued bad luck.

If I cut my finger off, the bad juju would just be put upon the next finger in line. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Finger is healed up pretty good now. I can use it. Now I will keep a kevlar finger cot on it as well as bubble wrap and tape. It will stay in my pocket until I am carrying my gun or all seasons are over.

I will be going out in about two weeks. My two fall tags are good until the end of January, so no rush.

An Indian helped me save many injuries from happening.
We were cleaning fish. He said towards your chum not your thumb. Golden words to live by.

Anther time while working with my brother, he was about to pry something and stopped. He looked at me and said, always look at what you are doing and how you can do it with the least risk to your skin.

When I was in the Air Force, they told us to cut toward your buddy, not your body. I guess I should have a buddy with me before and during hunting season.
