Probably going to have the opportunity to move in the next couple years with the wifes job. If you were looking to move where would you choose? Currently living in Western KY, which is great, but wanting to spread the wings.

Not far from you in southwest Indiana. I love where I live. I have KY and IL 30 min either direction. Large national forest here in Indiana and the cost of living is cheap as anything. But I also have kids and no desire to move them around.

Western KY it's a sportsman's paradise. The grass isn't always greener

I could see me snowbirding it between here or Nebraska (Dawes or Sioux county) or Wyoming (Niobrara or Weston county) in the summers and Florida (Alachua, Levy or Marion county) for the winter.

It really depends on what a guy's specific priorities are.  Where I live checks a lot of those boxes mentioned, but there are also some "deficiencies" about living here.  Regarding turkey hunting, in particular, we have some great opportunities within the state (NM), but if a guy wants to travel OOS, things get complicated real fast...you are either going to drive a long ways or plan on paying a premium to hunt, or both.

On the other hand, we have LOTS of game species available...but many are limited through drawings with increasingly impossible odds. However, if you are a rich guy, you can hunt just about everything here every year if you are willing to pay for it.   

There are plenty of fishing opportunities, as well, but compared to a lot of states with abundant water and endless places to fish, the opportunities here would likely seem to be meager.

Cost of living is comparatively low (but so it the wage-rate base overall) and the weather is great...if you can stand the heat in the summer (but at least the humidity is low, so it's a "dry heat")    The one real "pro" about the weather, however, is that we don't have things like tornados, hurricanes, flooding, and the like...which, from what I see in other parts of the country anymore, is a REALLY BIG "PRO".

All things considered, I would rate living here a A-...or maybe a B+. As a turkey hunter...I might lower that to a B. If I was a rich guy who was looking for a place where I could have exclusive opportunities to hunt all sorts of big game, living here would be an A++,...but alas, I am not and therefore must wait for the scraps to be thrown my way...and those scraps don't come often.

I was lucky enough to have lived nine years in Marshall County KY on KY Lake.  Miss it but the phrase "everything is a trade off" applies.  It will for you also.  Good luck with your choice.

If it wasn't for everything you mentioned and the states government I would say I want to stay here in NY, it truly is one of the most beautiful states once you get out of NYC and I guess if you are just visiting there is something to be said about the NYC skyline, but I like the Pittsburgh, PA skyline much more.

I had always wanted to live in Montana or Colorado but I have heard Montana has become incredibly liberal so not thanks one that. That leaves Colorado for me, I have never seen mountains in my liver and would very much like to while my body will still give me have a chance to explore them and photograph them.

I'd be fine if no one else ever moved here. I'd be fine if most of the ones who have moved here would leave. I'd be fine if we put up walls around the states and defended the Carolinas like some little tiny country

I live in Clarksville/Fort Campbell area. Spent 22 years of my career on Fort Campbell. Once the market settles down I am getting out of Clarksville and moving out into the county towards Dover/Big Rock area. Originally I am from East Tennessee but the hunting and fishing is great in Middle Tennessee/Western Kentucky. But if I had to go someplace else either Wyoming or Montana

Unfortunately, it is pretty tough to get all three of those (mostly the cost of living piece) these days.

Definitely depends on your own priorities but for me, I have two trains of thought. First: If I want to live somewhere and have everything about my back door and never need to go far for opportunities, I would pick the black hills of South Dakota. Second: If I want to live somewhere with good opportunities locally but also lots of travel opportunity, I would pick East Central or North Central Colorado. SD is definitely the cost of living choice but there are still great and affordable options available in Colorado and its not too hard to get away from the worst part of that state which is some of the people that live there.
