I was just thinking about this the other day. I've seen probably 5 or 6 in the past month here in PA. More than I typically recall. The majority that I had time to identify being hens.

In my experience, hens are the ones tend to get hit because they're traveling back and forth to the nest.

I would about 3 or 4 per year. I do not think I have ever seen a Tom but these are usually on the freeway to no stopping to closely examine so there couple have been a few Tom's

I hit a gobbler flying across the road a few years ago. Just happy he didn't end up in the cab with me

Saw two this weekend. Unfortunate, as we don't have enough turkeys to spare.

Almost hit a hen, that was flying across a major high way on my way home last time...

Fairly certain, that a different bird, attempting to cross a major road-way was responding to my calling when he got hit several years back (Lonnie Gilbert scratch box).


I have seen three dead birds on the road, and three were hens this season.

In W Tennessee I see 2-3 per season. Hate to see it because in my case it's always a hen

rarely, but I am not on the roads like I used to be.  I think there are enough critters around here that drag them off that we probably have a similar number hit, but they don't sit by the road long.  Deer?  All the time.  Have hit a couple myself.

Had a hen fly right in front of me on the way home from hunting with my daughter...  Pretty sure her wing-tips brushed my wind-shield...  Had another run across the road in front of me, barely missing getting hit in the other lane by on-coming traffic.

I have seen about 5 dead hens this season on the road, and have also noticed that more hens tend to be hit by cars?   Although a few years back, I am fairly certain that I was responsible for the demise of a gobbler...  He answered my call (from quite a ways away) across a major road, and then was suddenly quiet...  On the way out, there was a dead tom on the road that was not there when I started hunting.

Most of the dead birds on the roads that I see are near residential areas...  Maybe porch turkeys that get a bit too comfortable with vehicles?
