2021 fall season
« on: October 06, 2021, 03:55:37 PM »
Fall season is upon us! Who all is out chasing them? I've already grilled up one of my fall gobblers and hope to put a few more longbeards in the freezer.

Ohio starts Saturday October 9th and I'll be out. We only get one tag, but Ky opens at the end of the month and I get two there.

First morning out and I didn't put much effort into it. My bum knee was painful and It's a long season. Weekends I seldom hunt hard, because being retired I can go everyday. I leave the weekends for the working guys mostly. Still saw a group of 4-5 hens/poults, never even called to them. Looking for a gobbler flock for a while anyway.

Went this morning and found birds, but darn deer kept
Getting between the turkey and I. Finally backed out around 10.
Try a different approach tomorrow.

It's been a tough season so far. The birds are there, but man I am struggling to get around on this bad knee. Therapy twice a week isn't helping, I think it's back to the Dr and maybe surgery. I had birds on two sides this morning and just couldn't move well enough to get position and backed out. I did find what looks like a gobbler roost and will be sitting above it in about an hour. I have seen plenty of birds, but only a couple gobblers. I haven't worked a gobbler group yet. I hate to say it, but I may have to just shoot a turkey period. It sucks trying to run on a flat tire, so to speak.
