I hit a nest mowing will the hen return?
« on: May 31, 2011, 02:52:04 PM »
I was mowing today and flushed a hen.  She let me get right on top of her before flushing.  I had mowed the whole field except the last few strips before I flushed her.  I did see the eggs but 3 were broke and 10 were good.  The hen was unharmed.

My questions is will the hen possibly return?  She would be in the open field now.  Would the hen moved the eggs to the wood edge about 30 yards away?  Can they even move eggs?  I'm sick about doing this.  I always walk the field first for this reason and fawns.  I walked 10 feet from were she was and she never flushed.  I would of never mowed the field if i knew she was there.

woody,

The hen will net return to the nest if it's open field.

Did notice an embryo?  If not, she may nest again.
