Walnut over poplar

Looking for recommendations for this combo.  Appreciate it.

With out a doubt TJ Johnson builds an awsome fiddle box in that combo.

Albert Paul also builds a great box in that combo.

Comparing the ones I have from Mr Albert and TJ, TJ's has a bit more rasp on the back end, is a bit deeper and is higher on the front end of the yelp.

I also have one from Lee Smith that is a killer.

 I have a walnut over poplar combo that was made for me by Mr. Paul.  It has accounted for more birds to the gun than any other short box that we have ran.

The poplar is wormy and was from a cabin built prior to the Civil War.

Darrin Dawkins, Lamar Williams, Marlin Watkins, TJ Johnson, Albert Paul, I'm sure there are plenty more, that combo is my favorite hunting combo out of any that I own.

Not one wrong name given, so far.  ANY of them (and several more) will furnish you with an amazing walnut/poplar box.  Could add the Shoemakers, Bullock and McKamey.

Best sounding walnut/poplar box I own is a Dawkins.

Walnut butternut, walnut poplar, walnut mahogany, are all safe bets from ANY known callmaker,,just pick the style you want.
